Short answer
DIGITAL EUR has no digital euro product today. This page lists ideas we are researching, such as a merchant readiness report, a checkout impact simulator and a reconciliation adapter for future provider reports. Every one is RESEARCH or PLANNED, and none can launch before EU legislation, final technical standards and a licensed payment service provider partner are in place.
Why this page exists
People who find our digital euro research sometimes ask whether we sell a digital euro wallet, integration or "early access". We do not, and no one legitimately can: the digital euro has not been issued, and under the draft legislation it would be distributed only by supervised payment service providers (PSPs). The ECB will decide on issuance only after the regulation is adopted (ECB pilot page).
This page is our digital euro solutions roadmap, and the only place where DIGITAL EUR digital euro products are discussed. It sets out what DIGITAL EUR might build if the digital euro goes ahead, what would have to be true first, and what we will never build. It is a research roadmap, deliberately kept out of search indexes until there is something substantive to show. DIGITAL EUR is independent and has no affiliation with, partnership with or endorsement from the ECB or the Eurosystem.
What we offer today is unrelated to the digital euro: a free in-browser reconciliation demo for ordinary euro bank payments, described on our reconciliation product page.
What our status labels mean
| Label | Meaning on this site |
|---|---|
| LIVE | Works today for real use |
| DEMO | Works today on sample or your own local data, in the browser; nothing is stored or sent |
| PLANNED | We intend to build it; not available; no date promised |
| RESEARCH | We are studying whether it is possible, lawful and useful; it may never be built |
| CONCEPT | An idea that depends on specifications that do not exist yet |
| NOT BUILDING | Out of scope permanently |
The research pipeline
The table comes from our internal product pipeline. Stages are honest descriptions of where each idea stands on 5 November 2026.
| Idea | Stage | What it would do | Main gate | What exists today |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Merchant readiness report | PLANNED | A company-specific review of checkout, refund and reconciliation readiness | Clear scope; must never imply certification or pilot access | The free merchant readiness checklist |
| Digital euro news briefing | PLANNED | A sourced, periodic summary of official developments | Consent-based sign-up and editorial review | Our news page |
| Checkout impact simulator | RESEARCH | Illustrative scenarios showing how an extra payment method could affect checkout, refunds and reconciliation | Merchant requirements are not final; results could only ever be simulated | Nothing |
| Provider integration readiness matrix | RESEARCH | A tracker comparing published technical requirements with what integrators need | Official standards must be final; no claim of provider status | Our API documentation overview |
| Reconciliation adapter for digital euro reports | CONCEPT | Match future PSP settlement and pay-out reports to invoices | Approved PSP report formats and lawful data access | Our CSV reconciliation demo for today's bank data |
| Electronic receipts and split-payment prototypes | RESEARCH, experiment only | Explore themes the ECB is also studying | No custody or conditional transfer of money without authorisation | Our independent R&D prototype |
| Checkout connector | CONCEPT, gated | A hypothetical acceptance adapter that would sit behind an authorised PSP | Issuance, licensed PSP partner, legal review | Nothing |
| Digital euro wallet | NOT BUILDING | — | We will never hold funds, keys or balances | Educational content only |
What has to be true before anything ships?
Each idea above passes the same gates, in this order. Skipping one is not an option.
- The law is adopted. The digital euro regulation must be agreed by the European Parliament and the Council. As of 5 November 2026, negotiations are ongoing; our legislation tracker follows them.
- The rules are final. The ECB's scheme rulebook is in draft (version 0.91 of 2 July 2026), and pilot specifications are marked indicative (ECB rulebook page).
- A licensed partner exists. Anything touching digital euro payments would run through an authorised PSP. We are not one and do not plan to become one.
- Data access is lawful. Any product reading payment data needs a lawful basis, a contract and data protection arrangements.
- Our own review passes. Legal and security review, and an editorial check that every claim on the product page is true.
- The evidence is public. We only move an idea to PLANNED or DEMO when we can show what works, and we label it accordingly.
The timing of the first three gates is outside our control. The ECB plans a 12-month pilot from the second half of 2027 and aims to be ready for a potential first issuance in 2029 if the law is adopted in 2026. Our timeline tracks these conditions.
What will DIGITAL EUR never build?
- A digital euro wallet or any service that holds money, balances or keys.
- Investment or "early access" products. The ECB warns that it never asks for investments, money or personal information in connection with the digital euro.
- Claims of official status, such as "ECB-approved", "pilot partner" or "digital euro certified".
- Programmable money features. The ECB rules out restricting how money can be spent; we do too.
How we decide what to research
Our digital euro product research follows a simple and conservative method. We start from published ECB and EU documents, look for problems merchants and accountants will have regardless of the digital euro (reconciliation, refunds, data quality), and prototype only where a prototype can be honest. That is why the ideas furthest along, the readiness checklist and the reconciliation demo, are useful today without any digital euro at all.
We also watch the official programmes closely. The ECB's own innovation platform explores electronic receipts, split payments and conditional payments with registered organisations. Our research is separate from it, and overlap in themes reflects shared interest, not any relationship.
Frequently asked questions
Can I buy a digital euro product from DIGITAL EUR?
No. Nothing on this page is for sale. The only things available are free: the readiness checklist and the reconciliation demo for today's bank data.
Is DIGITAL EUR part of the ECB pilot?
No. We are not a payment service provider, were not selected for the pilot and have no access to the ECB's platform.
Will you build a digital euro wallet?
No. Wallets would be offered by supervised PSPs and the Eurosystem. We will not hold money or keys.
When will these products be available?
We do not give dates. Each idea depends on legislation, final standards and partners outside our control. We will update this page when an idea changes stage.
How can I follow progress?
Through our digital euro news page and this roadmap, which we update when a stage changes.
